21 Feb 2010 - Plans for the amas (floats) bulkheads arrived today.  Because there will need to be two of each bulkhead and it will be best if they are identical I  am going to make patterns for marking and cut them at the same time.  I also may try and make a particle board template and cut with the router and a pattern bit.  I'll do this with a pattern of half the bulkhead, so that both sides will be as close to identical as possible.  Shown below is posterboard templates of bulkhead 1 and 4, and the lines laid out for the transom on particle board scrap.

15 Feb 2010 - Progress has been slowed by cold weather, and waiting for additional bulkhead plans for the amas.  I did have some epoxy that I used to start coating some to the bulkheads and supports inside.  I have not pre-coated parts on previous projects and have read pros and cons of doing this, that said pre-coating structural parts should be ok.  Doing this for side and bottom panels can limit flexibility and bending characteristics.  I also decided to lay out measurements of the side/bottom panels on butcher paper which will help placement of parts on the joined plywood sheets.

23 Jan 2010 - Chris had sent an update to bulkhead 4 measurements, I made the adjustments and cut out, also lofted and cut the forwared and lazzerette deck supports.  There is also a picture of all the bulkheads and supports.

3 Jan 2010 - I have lofted the 3 of the 4 bulkheads, I'm awating some clarification on BH #4.  Here's pictures of bulkheads 1,2,3 read to be cut out.

1 Jan 2010 - Plan for the first day of the new year, watch the NHL's Winter classic and then loft vaka bulkheads and maybe even get some cut out.  Stay tuned

4 Dec 2009 - cut out the Aft Vaka building support

aft building support

1 Dec 2009 - The "C" center and "F" Forward panels for the building support have been lofted and cut.
After trying a couple of saws and methods, what worked best to cut was the 3 1/2" 18 volt circular saw cutting freehand.

29 Nov 2009 - The first steps to building the vaka (main hull of a trimaran) is to build a support from 3/4" OSB sheets and 1x4's and 2x4's. See plan diagram and the photo of the center support drawn and ready to cut. (C for center)  This sheet was painted white from a previous use, I like to recycle when I can.   The cut out is roughly 28" deep and 32" at it's createst width.
